Work Atmosphere

Work Atmosphere

Epion offers a comfortable working atmosphere. All teachers and staff members know one another. We work together as a team, and socialize together as friends. Our culture of learning is one of the rewarding aspects of working here.

Benefits

Epion offers a wide array of benefits to its teaching staff. Click on the links below to read more about our extensive benefits.

Work Visa Sponsorship

Epion sponsors its full-time teaching staff for a Specialist in Humanities work visa; this visa requires that applicants possess a four-year university degree in any major. However, please note that applicants who possess a spouse visa (due to being married to a citizen of Japan) or working holiday visa do not need to apply for a Specialist in Humanities work visa. Working holiday visas are available for a number of countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. For more information on working holiday visas, please visit the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan website (in English).

National Holidays

All National Holidays Off plus Annual Paid Vacation

Epion gives its full-time teachers a generous amount of vacation time. Teachers are given at least 40 days off each school year, including all of Japan's national holidays as well as scheduled company holidays as paid vacation. This policy is in contrast with many other English language schools in Japan, a number of which require their teachers to work even during Japan's national holidays. Beyond this, Epion's full-time teachers also earn a minimum of 10 additional paid holiday annually. These paid vacation days increase by 1 additional day annually until the maximum of 20 is earned. For more general information on Japan's holidays, please click here

Transportation Expenses Paid

As mentioned above, transportation costs will be provided by the company. Teachers will be reimbursed the amount of their commuter pass monthly. Any travel between schools not covered by the monthly commuter pass will also be paid.

Paid Training

Paid Training

Epion offers a full training period for new teaching staff, covering methods and materials for each of Epion's various courses. This training period typically requires between two to four weeks to complete, depending on the experience level of the trainee. Please check the Curriculum section below for more details on Epion's courses.

Corporate Culture of Learning

Corporate Culture of Learning

Corporate culture simply refers to the culture of an organization. Everyone we hire is expected to learn, as well as teach. Epion is a company built by its teachers. Our foreign managers achieved their positions by first becoming successful in teaching. Knowledge of teaching methods, activities, and classroom management is shared throughout our company. Our common goal is to become the best teachers we can be. Since we all come from a variety of backgrounds and experience, we learn as much about ourselves as we do about each other. When not teaching, teachers may be involved in project teams focusing on creating curriculum, drawing animation for our Product Development team, producing training videos, recording homework CDs at a studio, or even collaborating to make this very website. A learning culture allows Epion to grow, share knowledge, and get the best of every member of the organization.

Work Environment

Epion's sixty staff members share similar values for teaching and love for kids. We work together as teams, and socialize together as friends. We depend on cooperation and knowledge sharing throughout the organization. Since we're teaching young children, we don't require teachers to wear a business suit to work. (However, for interview purposes, all standard job interview etiquette is expected.)

Teacher-Student Relationship

All instructors are given set teaching schedules and see the same children each week. Young children often mimic their role models and indeed, over time your students' speech patterns and mannerisms will likely mirror your own. Watch out! For the students, they will likely derive the most benefit from learning pronunciation and practicing English from a single instructor. For the teachers, you will be able to observe the incremental development of their English ability.

Staff and Teachers

Staff and Teachers

Epion has an incredibly diverse and colorful staff of teachers who come from countries across the globe. As a condition, all applicants must be friendly, hardworking, professional, and love kids. If you are and you do, Epion would be an ideal workplace for you!

Curriculum

Curriculum

Epion offers six different courses that provide a track for the development of English in a wide variety of students, from very young children to adults. Click on each course to see more information.

'With Mom' Course

This course is designed for our youngest students, some as young as two years old. Most of the children in this course are between the ages of two and three. It's designed to teach these young children simple, basic English. These children take the course with their mothers present in the classroom. The mothers are there to help the teacher control these young students as well as to learn themselves. It's designed to be a fun and educational course. The idea is to get the children into the Epion system as early as possible, and prepare them to go on to the more demanding courses that follow. Once a student reaches age four, they should move on to the Inter-Kids Course.

'Inter-Kids' Course

'Inter-Kids' Course

The Inter-Kids course is the main course of Epion, and has the greatest number of students of all the courses. The course is designed for children ages four and above to build vocabulary and basic sentence structures through fun games and activities. The course is split into three ranks, each of increasing difficulty: Discovery, Quest, and finally Passage. There are target vocabulary and grammar requirements that students must meet in order to move on to the next rank. As students progress through the ranks they will be able to form more difficult sentences from the vocabulary and grammar they have learned.

'Jr Starter' Course

The Jr Starter course is designed to help kids who want to progress into the Inter-Junior course to build their spelling, writing, and reading skills by practicing phonics.

'Inter-Junior' Course

'Inter-Junior' Course

The Inter-Junior course is where students will learn about English grammar and sentence structure. To enter this course, students must be age eight or above and have the ability to read, pronounce, and write simple English. There are oral, reading, and writing components in each lesson. Textbooks and workbooks are used in this course, along with homework, tests, teaching guides, and materials that have been produced by Epion’s Product Development Team.

'Communicate' Course

'Pre-College' Course

The Pre-College course is designed for students that have progressed through the Inter-Junior course and are ready for more advanced reading and grammar. The key areas for teaching are improving reading comprehension and building vocabulary, as well as learning and applying grammar through oral and written exercises. Like the Inter-Junior course, textbooks are used as teaching resources in this course, along with other writing tools and worksheets that have been produced in-house for our teachers.
